they won't kill it. they can't. the need for candy and slutty women's costumes is to great.
still, free game.
this is true
I would make some smart ass comment about how nobody wants PvZ, even for free
but it's for kids, so I guess it works out
I think that should be the new halloween tradition
Free video games >.>

I remember when "free game" meant one of 10 demos crammed onto a CD you got from subscribing to useless magazines
Such dark times...
And god help you if it was a month of nothing but videos

And now the spirit of the demo is dead. Can't really blame the developers though.

Demos abound in the Personal Computer gaming industry. RE6, Burnout's most recent game had one, and Saints Row and GTA IV both had demonstration content released.
Aside from RE6, all the titles you named are ~4 years old.
I just want to note that that's not a small amount of time in gaming anymore, in that time, we've seen 4 Assassins Creed games, and 5 Halo games
Developers see demos as a liability, and unless they are really sure of their product [and really sure that they can net some purchases], they often won't make one, because they're using time and resources they can use on their final product.
A recent example: Journey had a demo, but it was just the first level, showing off what makes the game unique. That's mostly what you see nowadays, and I believe we'll continue to see that, for innovative or new games, but you won't need a demo to know if the new MOH/COD/Halo/insert huge franchise here is right for you. I think Resident evil is in a situation where they are trying to recapture the spark that made RE an original franchise [judging from them constantly trying new gameplay types, and producing multiple handheld spinoffs], so putting a demo out was more or less advertisement, along with the commercials and ads you see plastered on websites.
I'm not saying that demos are dead, but the spirit of demos are dead.

Cut back on food portions?
Implement healthy meal programs in public schools?
Teach our children self control?
Nah, fuck all that nonsense.
Let us instead try to destroy Halloween, the harbinger of candied goods.
That should settle that problem once and for all.
Making it more like Christmas gift getting than Halloween candy getting.
It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

I don't think dentists are concerned with obesity, nor do I think they should be.Methinks this is just a lazy attempt to offset the whole child obesity thing that runs pretty rampant in the western world.
