Well, that explains why the pirate bay has flooded with ps3 isos again
I love how the escapists news guy said "Lets hope Sony rebuilds their security from the ground up next time". YEA, because preventing software/hardware exploits for a completely custom system build by a HARDWARE company is just a snap... New software... Why didn't they think of that... damn gits -.-
The thing that's most annoying me most about this is the Xbox fanboys getting all high and mighty over something that's just business as usual. It should be noted that the Xbox 360 has pretty much been an open book since release, all the way down to being able to play cracked, burned games online. Xbox hasnt tried to fix it, so it doesnt get public attention.
Back on topic: now that people have direct control over their 7-cored 1/2GBram supercomputers, I wonder what kind of interesting programs well see
I bet 10 to 1 it's just going to be people pirating crap, and shitty homebrew games

I like how people are all OMG SONY SUCKS over this. Despite the fact the PSP has been hackable since release pretty much and nobody gave a fuck.

I guess the point I'm trying to make was that there was a lot of value added beyond that of being able to play pirated games. I'm pretty sure the 360 team took some inspiration from XBMC (it would at least have appeared to be the case).

This, as far as modded consoles go, pirated games are probably the most boring things you can do on one.I have fond memories modding my first xbox - we originally wanted to hard mod but we dicked up the soldering and killed the first one. (it was a spare anyway) We copped out and soft modded, but the very first time I loaded up XBMC (when it was still xbox media center) was a real treat. Lot of really neat stuff going on there that I can't believe the original xbox team didn't develop. There was actually a mario game that was a "port" but I could never find the original.

I wish there was a way of taking screenshots on PS3. I know some games have the function, but it'd be nice to have a universal command or something.
Same, I think if I could take photos my Pictures section wouldnt just be those 5 GT5 screenshots I took

I, too, hope to see some nifty things pop up
I think it can happen, but not at the pace that Xbox had, seeing as Xbox practically uses a PC build, where Ps3 uses the supercomputing build from hell [at least for developers]

For these reasons, Cell is widely regarded as a challenging environment for software development."
