the first episode is just silly, at least it was for me
It's kinda like if .hack had more emphasis on the game
and didn't constantly switch characters on you

Having played several MMO before I think the idea is pretty cool. However there are some "WTF" moments caused by some awkward "relationships".
The novels have more emphasis on the storyline and character developement.

I hope so, I watched until like Ep8 and noticed that nobody was quite likeable. They all felt really 2D as far as character depth.
The emphasis on the gameplay is nice, but it's also a deus-ex tool waiting to happen.

Why is the anime so depressing? I don't know whether I'm just a massive pussy but I've cried through quite a few episodes now. Wtf. Also oh my god the boss fights. Double also, Kirito's little speech near the end of episode 15 had me bawling.

I only watched the first episode of this, but my boyfriend, who's read the manga, said it was really good. I might try again. It had a good premise at least.

I really liked it. It made me want to watch more MMO-based animes ._. and I want a continuation of SAO. Though I don't want it to be set in an MMO. I just want a slice-of-life anime based on the characters, it'd be awesome.

Yeah, that's what attracts me to it. I really enjoyed any .hack series I've watched. A slice of life anime based around an MMO would be really cool, I would definitely watch that.
Though that being said, I also really want K-ON but with engineers so I don't really know what that says about my tastes.

I have a love/hate relationship with .Hack//. I liked Liminality, but the uh...the other one, I forget its full title, I didn't care for much. I need to hunt down more MMO-style animes, they're pretty entertaining. But I have so much to watch still >.> I decided to watch FMA and I'm on like episode 35 of that now.

So, am I the only one who thinks this anime has gone a little over the top?
The ALF arc is... it's nice, I like that the show still has direction, but at the same time the plot is getting silly, at least for me.
I'm enjoying the show, but I get a feeling that I don't like where it's headed [somewhere silly, like .hack]

There's a second season? Or do you mean the ALF arc? Because yeah that one is a bit icky. Still good though, and the ending ties things up quite well. Aside from the fact that THE LIGHT NOVEL SERIES IS TWO WHOLE GAMES AHEAD OF THE ANIME AND I WANT TO SEE GUN GALE ONLINE ANIMATED DAMNIT

Loved it, Really enjoyed the characters and the big relationship development... but...
I am looking forward to GGO but it has been about 2 years since the last season was released and although it has only just boomed in the west there have been many Anime that have not carried on even with huge popularity. We just need to hear something from the studio! Anything! Please! Im begging you!

They might make a new series, hopefully. I don't know if Sword Art Offline is finished yet so they may want to wrap that up before they do anything else.

I'll be honest, I never watched this. Mostly because my nephew gushed on and on about it and that can't be good.
But I stumbled upon this: http://myanimelist.n...265/Log_Horizon This sounds like Sword Art but maybe more about the characters. It has a romance tag too.
Has this became a new genre? I remember .hack, like, six of them. The games were cool, but will this type of thing soon become synonyms with slice of life and magic girls?

I think you're right. I think it's a new genre of anime.
The "Trapped in a Game with a Romantic Partner" genre, or TagWarp for short.

It's actually pretty well put together and I'm enjoying it so far. It's one of the few anime that me and my son stay up and watch during Toonami.
