It's a slow day, I have a spiffy i7 box here at work, and I want to use it for interesting things. Suggestions? I was playing with VM this morning, but that's gotten stale, though it does open opportunities for different OSes and such to play with as well.

Do you know any SQL? If not, set up a VM* and install MS SQL Server** and start learning.

*I suggest a VM because SQL Server has a few constant running processes that I'm sure you don't want bogging you down normally.
**I suggest MS SQL Server because they have a giant database called AdventureWorks pre populated with data for you to play around with, as well as many MSDN articles with specific examples to AdventureWorks

I know some basics, mostly adding, cleaning and dropping things. That's not a bad idea though, running a place like this, SQL is something I need to brush up on.

I would definitely consider it a great skill to have. We have two offices - an IT building (server guys, programmers and operators) and a sales building. We have a technical liaison at the sales office, and I would kill for him to know SQL. A lot of times we'll get requests for one-time queries (ie what users can view this set of data), would be awesome if he could do that kind of stuff for them.

They are rumoured to be making a sequel sometime soon.

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

They are rumoured to be making a sequel sometime soon.

They confirmed it, in their reddit AMA.

Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.
