I'm going to get a Raspberry Pi and make a little emulator box out of it. I think I'm going to go tablet style and incorporate a 7" LCD screen powered by USB. Current one I'm looking at here. I plan on trying to find one cheaper though. I want to make a spiffy little case for it all as well. The problem with that though, is I could get something like this and deconstruct it for cheaper: http://www.newegg.co...=9SIA1M80EY6934

My other option is to make a case for it as small as possible, and use it as a set top box as sorts. Or maybe build it into a controller?
Ideas? Suggestions?

i dunno. the tablet seems like the slightly better choice, as it'd give you more freedom of movement. make a case backing to incorporate the pi and then go sit in your little corner and play your vidya games.

i'm horrible at the design process, myself. so good luck with that >.>

That's what I was thinking, but it would be pretty cool to have just a little box that was a battery and computer, and just plug it in somewhere. Possibly one of the little USB wireless dongles too.

true. that idea would also support more players, as well.

or why not make a lap sized arcade cabinet?

I thought about that, but at that point I'd have room for something more powerful.

look at all that room for activities? >.>

i figured, but it was worth a shot <.<

go the Wii U route and take the tablet idea, split a controller in half and plaster one half to each side of the screen?

as you can tell, i'm really bad at this >.>

Ok, ok, now before I say this stupid thing that I have lined up for you... I am an audio engineer, have built amplifiers and desktop computers/restored and modded laptops... I have a rough basis for understanding this area, this may still be stupid and shoot me down if it is.

Motion control!

Get a computer mouse or two, make sure they are MMO Multibutton (shown here) --> http://blog.laptopma...hardcore-gamers

Brace one mouse onto each side of your screen with a pivot, then have a brace bar that connects the two mice together. under this have a spring which holds the bracing bar away from the backside of the screen. Finally place a counter weight under your screen.

So to draw a final picture, the MMO buttons are your controller buttons, the left and right click are bumper buttons, the MMB is a quick select?

When you move the handheld emulator then the mouse lasers will activate at a certain speed along the sides of the screen, when the acceleration has ceased the springs will push the mouse back into the starting position...

I apologise for this post :-P

Or you can take a Wii remote and download a Wii remote bluetooth pair thingamajingy (if you have a Wii)

If you have that (ripoff) Playstation Move I'm pretty sure there are programs that let you wirelessly connect it to your computer as well.

A portable Wii mote device? That would look strange being swung around on a crowded bus in the mornings...

I'm sure it would, although it'd be funny seeing how many Nintendo fanboys you pissed off because they thought you were playing a wii game :D

If you don't mind having the controller be separate from the unit, you can get a USB bluetooth module for dirt. Slap that biznatch in there and open the world for control possibilities. I favor the DualShock3, its got a good charge life, can charge USB when necessary, its light and I've had a Playstation forever. I prefer the 360 controller on feel and function but it's not bluetooth. Although with the available dongle, you could run it on AA batteries, those mugs last a lifetime.
Admittedly both are overkill for SNES/NES or older, but the 64 and Playstation on up would benefit from the options.
Hell, with the bluetooth option you can go multiplayer, incorporate whatever controllers you are willing to haul around and interface it with some newer TVS for big-screen play.

Think about the possibilities!
