My other option is to make a case for it as small as possible, and use it as a set top box as sorts. Or maybe build it into a controller?
Ideas? Suggestions?

i figured, but it was worth a shot <.<
go the Wii U route and take the tablet idea, split a controller in half and plaster one half to each side of the screen?
as you can tell, i'm really bad at this >.>

Motion control!
Get a computer mouse or two, make sure they are MMO Multibutton (shown here) --> http://blog.laptopma...hardcore-gamers
Brace one mouse onto each side of your screen with a pivot, then have a brace bar that connects the two mice together. under this have a spring which holds the bracing bar away from the backside of the screen. Finally place a counter weight under your screen.
So to draw a final picture, the MMO buttons are your controller buttons, the left and right click are bumper buttons, the MMB is a quick select?
When you move the handheld emulator then the mouse lasers will activate at a certain speed along the sides of the screen, when the acceleration has ceased the springs will push the mouse back into the starting position...
I apologise for this post :-P

If you have that (ripoff) Playstation Move I'm pretty sure there are programs that let you wirelessly connect it to your computer as well.

If you don't mind having the controller be separate from the unit, you can get a USB bluetooth module for dirt. Slap that biznatch in there and open the world for control possibilities. I favor the DualShock3, its got a good charge life, can charge USB when necessary, its light and I've had a Playstation forever. I prefer the 360 controller on feel and function but it's not bluetooth. Although with the available dongle, you could run it on AA batteries, those mugs last a lifetime.
Admittedly both are overkill for SNES/NES or older, but the 64 and Playstation on up would benefit from the options.
Hell, with the bluetooth option you can go multiplayer, incorporate whatever controllers you are willing to haul around and interface it with some newer TVS for big-screen play.
Think about the possibilities!
