And the "Werewolves love at first sight" thing had me want to vomit.

We they're ravenous monsters, with a touch of humanity, not goddamn love-beasts.

Agreed.
Werewolves are supposed to represent the struggle between man and his internal beast.
Not about being native and banging children.

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

Yes

The "inner beast" isn't a metaphor for deep yearning for love and understanding, either

It's a goddamned monster that wants to eat faces.

And that is usually exactly what the inner beast does.
Eat all the faces.

It is perfectly acceptable to fear and admire a being you could not possibly understand.

Only one vampire should be capable of walking in the sunlight.

Dracula could walk in sunlight.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nosferatu

"Also, Orlok must sleep by day, as sunlight would kill him, while the original Dracula is only weakened by sunlight."

Fun facts. Nosferatu was the first vampire to have sunlight as an anathema.
I don't think he needs to be immortal. I think all he needs to do is to write the right story. Because some stories do live forever.
