Hello all!

So I got into gaming very young. My first consoles were a Sega Genesis and a Super Nintendo. I remeber hours of Sonic The Hedgehog,Super Mario Bros. and X-Men. Now we are in the 7th generation and slowly approaching the 8th.

The only 7th generation console I owned was a Xbox 360 and I had some good times with it.I began to think about the console race though...Is it really worth it? I owned a Sega then bought a PS1 and a PS2 then an Xbox then a 360 and a Wii...Each console cost a pretty penny and it was only a few short years before the next one came out.

Now the 7th generation has lasted the longest and may even see another 2 or 3 years,Not counting the OUYA (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ouya) and Wii U (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wii_U). Still I find that the console race just isn't worth it. Even with backwards compatability.

Which brings me to my point! How many of you console gamers have thought of switching to PC gaming? Or how many of you dabble in PC gaming but are looking into it more seriously? With the advance of F2P (Free to play) games and games like WoW leading the way in P2P (Pay to play).

I'm a gamer at heart and it's all I really know. I just wondered how many of you felt as I did about the console race.

Here is another article on the console race..If you would like to hear another opinion.

I have a very strong PC, so I've thought about switching BACK to PC gaming... However, just cant find enough good players to play with or mature enough guys. I have co workers on XBox who are also my best buds too, but being I love PC gaming (its where I became pro first) I am using a mouse / keyboard now on XBox lol

So I am a PC gamer at heart but on console cause it's easy !

I got into gaming early on too. I had so much free time back in the day. Lack of friends made the internet and games the best outlet for entertainment for me. I've always been a PC gamer--almost exclusively. Free games only though. No monthly subscription bullshit, please :P

Aside from many of the online games being free--always preferred MMOs--part of the reason for me preferring PC games is that most of my life the only systems I had for gaming was a PC and Gameboy. I got a PS2 when I was like, 11 or 12. I eventually sold my PS2 cause there weren't many games I was interested in...I got a Gamecube next and I still have it. I love Nintendo <3 though they've been releasing so many new consoles (at least handhelds) so quickly these days that I can't keep up and it's not really worth it imo :\

I do not own any consoles from 7th gen. (unless you count a DS Lite?) and I prolly won't be investing in one any time soon. I'm perfectly happy playing MMOs on my laptop :) Especially since I have you to play with <3 It's nice that you like PC games too, Dako. Been wanting a friend(s)/boyfriend to play with for a looong time ^_^

I play a multitude of consoles, as well as PC gaming. I disagree that console gaming is in any way dying off, or whatever. Sure, the PC gets cheaper games, but the main reason for that is lack of packaging. With Steam, everything's DDL so you cut out the middleman. However, you seem to be focusing solely on MMOs, when there are a multitude of other (and better) games on PC. As it is, I play most games on console, and use the PC for exclusives.

Oh I played 360,Wii and PS2 for years after I started PC gaming. I enjoy the consoles but most of the games weren't worth the pricetag. I hated blowing $60-$75 on a game only to find that it sucks. X3

Also I'm not saying that that console gaming is "dying off" I'm simply saying that keeping up with the console that are released and their increasingly high pricetags can be annoying and difficult for those with other monentary responsibilities. Like you said PC gaming cuts out the middle man.

I'm play games aside from MMO as well.I also play Blacklight:Retribution,Skyrim, and soon I plan to purchase Left4Dead 1&2 as well as a game called Killing Floor and MAYBE the new Counter Strike. I wouldn't say that these games are "better" than MMOs. Their apples and oranges in my opinion. What game do you play on the PC?

I know what you mean! I'm still trying to find a good clan on Blacklight. There are good and bad people everywhere though. Whether your on Xbox Live or an online game server. You just gotta pick and choose the good ones. Which can be annoying as Hell!

I play on a reasonably high-end laptop, so I mostly stick with games that don't require much mouse input. Indie games especially (fuck I love Steam) but in total I have about...300 PC games installed or on external drives/own but not installed. I'm a biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig visual novel fan so I have a lot of those.

The main issue I have with PC gaming is that while the games are cheaper, it's harder to maintain. Sure, I could build myself a top-spec desktop, but I prefer the mobility of a laptop so it's expensive to upgrade every time. With consoles it's simple. Buy console, buy game, play game. With the PC it's check specs, wonder if my computer is above or below minimum specs, if above wonder if it will run on top settings or not, ponder for a while, wait for a sale, buy game, download game, install game, run game, wait for game to install extra stuff it apparently needs but didn't come with it, fiddle with settings until the game both looks good and performs well. By this time I'll have already half-finished the same game on a console, lol.

Hrmm, I was actually a console gamer at first, I had a trusty PS1 and a tonne of classics. I moved over to PC gaming in 2008 and the transition lasted a year or so, now the only console games I ever play are on my brothers Xbox 360, and that's a very rare occasion, maybe a few times a month or so.

For the most part I lack the time to invest into MMOs that aren't flash-based. :( As for external drives, I use a Seagate FreeAgent 500GB USB drive. I'm looking into getting a Seagate GoFlex 2TB, but I'm not sure about it being USB 3.0.

I feel like the PC FPS gaming community is just better (or has a higher skill floor). I can get a much better KD on 360 COD than I can on PC, and I rarely touch my xbox.

I missed if you had a PC or laptop. You might want to consider just an internal. Anything seagate with usb 3, if your computer supports it. Shoot for a 7200rpm drive if you're going to store things that need to actively load on it.

Didn't microsoft test this back with Halo 2? (It might have been 3) They wanted to do cross platform games, but concluded that the PC guys basically kicked too much ass.

What's the difference between 2.0 and 3.0 for USB?

About 30 minutes of waiting. :P
3.0 is (theoretically) 10 times faster. (5gb/s vs. 480mb/s)

It's more the controls than anything else, no joke

The mouse gives you much more precise control than the joystick, you can do a 180 degree spin not only faster, but with more accuracy

The keyboard also gives you ~20 keys at easy reach from WSAD, not to mention mouses and keyboards with macro controls, etc.

Hence why console games has been kicking in Aim assist and soft lock since Halo

Counter-strike: Global Offensive is claiming to be cross platform, totally possible as Portal 2 was crossplatform. we'll see how it does

I'm not making the comparison of a guy on a pc vs. a guy on an xbox, moreso that someone who is traditionally good can excel way above other players on a console than on a PC. PC FPS K/D spread usually isn't that high, whereas on the console it's not uncommon to see someone carry a match fairly easily.

GO dropped cross-platform play. Kinda sad really. I have a friend who keeps bragging he's an amazing FPS player, despite the fact I beat him in overall kills on Killing Floor, k/d on CS:S, achievements and k/d on TF2. And I play on a laptop without an actual mouse atm sooooo...

But he's getting GO on PC, whereas I'm getting the PS3 version.
