Nineteen Eighty-Four is a fantastic book, my favourite in fact. I'm not sure how one can over-play it though, dystopian fiction is an expansive genre which amalgamates tens upon tens of themes into itself. As one looks to such countries as China and North Korea they find that the Orwellian themes of controlling the news for instance, are increasingly evident. The inhabitants of Airstrip One didn't even have to try and perpetuate the myths of the party either. They were so indoctrinated that the second generation post-revolution inhabitants knew nothing other than what the party told them. As people such as Julia and Winston are captured and propelled towards enlightenment, the party succeeds in continuing the illusion of a state at war and a state that is free. In essence, the beliefs manufactured by the party are taken up by the population willingly as additional compliments to their existing theology

Speaking of war-torn science fiction, I recommend the Ender's Game series to anyone, as well as the spinoff Shadow series (also by Orson Scott Card), that follows the Ender's Game character Bean, through the same universe.

Rumors of my demise have been greatly exaggerated.

Marvel VS Avengers comic books are pretty good.

:D

I loved that run, as well as the Avengers vs X-Men Consequences run. Good stuff. Set up a nice atmosphere for the current on-going series.

Just last weekend I read one of the Dark Tower books. "Wind Through The Keyhole." It takes place in the middle of the series but was written afterward.

I forgot how much I loved The Dark Tower. So yeah, hearty recommendation. The graphic novel versions are great, too.
I don't think he needs to be immortal. I think all he needs to do is to write the right story. Because some stories do live forever.

I really need to start The Dark Tower when I'm not distracted by King's other stories. <,<

Someone already said it but Watchmen is really great

Also, Stephen King has some great books: Misery, Pet Semetary, Cujo, IT, Nightmares and Dreamscapes, etc.

To be human is to err so...err

N&D, Pet Semetary, and Misery are all great indeed. I've only read a few stories in N&D though but have it on the Nook. Currently reading Full Dark, No Stars. If I think I can stomach a book with a thousand pages, maybe IT next. >.>"

IT is definitely long but it's a great read. I also recommend It's Kind Of a Funny Story by Ned Vizzini. It's short and simplistic but the story is great. Same with 13 Reasons Why.

Now I feel like a scrub for not recommending a book!

A couple of my favorites are:

The Book of Lost Things
BioShock: Rapture
World War Z
Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

Man, if you already like Stephen King, then you won't even know what to do with yourself when you read Dark Tower. It's his Opus, imo.

If I remember right that's what he said too haha. I also heard The Stand is his opus but I haven't read that either.

I have been reading American Vampire. It is a pretty good series. It is bloody, how real vampires should be portrayed.

Anything written by Stephen Colbert (or his writers). I love all three of them.

Everyone should read Pride & Prejudice & Zombies. It's a graphic novel.

The War Poems of Siegfried Sassoon. Just do it, they're amazing. An example:

I knew a simple soldier boy
Who grinned at life in empty joy,
Slept soundly through the lonesome dark,
And whistled early with the lark.

In winter trenches, cowed and glum
With crumps and lice and lack of rum,
He put a bullet through his brain.
No one spoke of him again.

You smug-faced crowds with kindling eye
Who cheer when soldier lads march by,
Sneak home and pray you'll never know
The hell where youth and laughter go.

I picked this up mostly because of Scott Snyder, and I have to say, this is pretty damn great. It's got a fresh new twist for vampires too.

I want an interesting (and NEW) graphic novel/comic book series to start reading. Currently I'm reading the Star Wars comic adaptions to the movies. But, I'm looking for something new, something intriguing! Any help would be great :-)
