For me its all about the character models. Some games have amazing ones and others looks like a 3 year old made them. I usually go female because these are the models that are usually really refined. Also I tend to go for anything cute and shiny. Also it depends how the game is played. First/third person perspective can make a difference in the decision... First person who cares but third person..... ITS ALL ABOUT THAT BOOTY '3'

Huh... Never tried to think about it, honestly. I think I usually make female characters in Skyrim or Dragon Age and such, but I have tried out male characters and that didn't put me off or anything. It's usually reflex to pick the female character though, so I have to specifically think of making a male one. But I guess I also resonate with the argument about obstructing the view. Most of my characters tend to be as small in bulk and size as possible.
Or go with the best design/outfit too.
